Slides from the Helen Foster Collection
Ishigaki and Surrounding Islands,
1955–1956

These rare 35mm color slides were taken by geologist Helen Foster during her field survey across Ishigaki and the Yaeyama Islands. Capturing coastal geology, coral formations, and island ecologies, the images document a fragile landscape prior to rapid postwar development.
