Helen Foster 16mm film around the island
1955

In 1955, American geologist Helen Foster captured rare 16mm color film footage around Ishigaki Island during her geological survey, documenting coastal formations, village life, and untouched jungle landscapes. These films offer a unique visual record of the island before its postwar transformation and industrial development.
